The aim of this project is to study the Shags that breed on or originate from Lundy Island. All birds are marked with uniquely coded metal and colour-rings to facilitate identification in the field and studies on behavior and movement. Specific objectives of this project are to investigate juvenile recruitment and post-juvenile dispersal, identify non-breeding range and investigate breeding site suitability and site fidelity of the Shags on Lundy. Lundy birds are ringed with a red colour ring with white lettering LAxx or LBxx, where xx are letters.
The definitive database of all colour-marking schemes for Shags in Europe is available on the Cormorant Research Group website.
A online form for reporting sightings of Lundy-ringed Shags will be provided on this website in the future.
We are grateful to the Lundy Field Society for providing funding enabling this project to be undertaken.
